  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
2 cups beef broth
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Optional add-ins:
½ cup diced bell peppers
½ cup corn kernels
½ teaspoon chili flakes

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Add ground beef and cook for 5–6 minutes, breaking it apart until browned.

  • Stir in diced onion and cook for 3 minutes until softened.

  • Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  • Season the beef with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning.

  • Add the uncooked rice and stir for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast the grains.

  • Pour in beef broth and diced tomatoes. Stir well and scrape the bottom of the skillet.

  • Bring the mixture to a light boil.

  • Reduce heat to low, cover with a lid, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until the rice is tender.

  • Remove from heat and let the skillet rest for 5 minutes.

  • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the ground beef to brown properly before adding other ingredients. Toasting the rice briefly in the skillet improves texture and prevents mushy rice. If the skillet becomes dry while reheating leftovers, add a splash of broth to restore moisture. This Ground Beef and Rice Skillet can easily be customized with vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or corn.
